Keep or Purge :: Purple Gift Bag and Tissue Paper

(If this is the first Keep or Purge :: Trash or Treasure post that you have stumbled upon, you might want to check out my explanation of it here. Basically, I am sharing my real life struggles with deciding what to do with the STUFF in my life.)

I go through this one a lot – gift bags and tissue paper.

I got this little baggy at the farmer’s market when I bought a locally made lavender hydrosol. When I got home I almost dropped it in the trash after I took out my purchase, then hesitated as I imagined re-gifting it, with a little goody, to someone else.

FYI – it’s not very big, just 7″ x 5″ x 3″. Good for small items like essential oils and jewelry.

I tend to fold up pretty tissue papers and bags and keep them on a closet shelf. I do reuse them when I’m wrapping gifts and mailing packages to people. Then every time I move (which has been far too often), I purge a few of the extras.

At the same time, I’m not sure I’d miss it if I got rid of it up front. What would it have hurt if I had just thrown it away immediately? What would I have gained?

What would you do?

  1. Oooo! Pretty. I have a horrible problem. I LOVE purple. I have a real problem throwing purple things out. Can your bag be recycled? I’d give it 6 months. If I haven’t found another use for it by then I’d recycle.

  2. Ha! An aesthetic reason for keeping it. Luckily, I don’t think tons of things are purple, so that shouldn’t be too much of a problem for you. :)

I don’t know if it can be recycled. See? That kind of stuff trips me up. Sometimes we keep something because we don’t know the proper way to dispose of it. We want to be responsible and recycle it – not throw it in a landfill – but we don’t know if we can.

Sigh. Anyway, I’ll see if I can wrap a gift with it, and if not I’ll get rid of it. Maybe I’ll think of a little gift to mail to you and then it will be your problem!
