Hey there,
Just found your blog and was reading thru and got to your birthing story. I had natural childbirth twice. Mine went pretty well, Im in cali, had a bradley birthing teacher who was awesome and I made my birth plan, no supportive doctors and the one I had poo pooed my birth plan and said "You have never done this before" and then said "You better show up to the hospital when you are ready" in a snide tone.

I wanted to tell you, I had back labor my first child and I will tell you it is PAINFUL, and part of why I dread childbirth! And mine was nothing like yours was. I spent most of it at home. I was having light contractions and then it was like a back spasm, I was fine and playing board games and had dinner. Later they got more intense and I spent most of it in the shower with hot water blasting my back. I remember holding the bar and bracing thru each contraction thinking "Just one more, then I will get out" and Id stay in longer for the next one. Then my husband was in the bed with me, I was sitting facing the wall, where the headboard is to brace myself and he was putting pressure into my lower back, his knuckles must have been so sore! It was the only help, i ended up having him just putting his foot in my back and pressing in hard. So I can relate to much of what you describe, standing, a hot shower and intense pressure in the lower back were the only things really of help to me. I spent 4 hrs like that at home and then told him we needed to leave, to which he replied "If you go now, you will just get drugs!" I told him I didnt care. I had a hard time getting down our stairway of our apt with the contractions, once I got in the car the urge to push feeling came over me. We were 5 min from the hospital. I was making a loud noise with each contraction, my body was putting on its own pressure. I got to the hospital and had a hard time sitting in the wheelchair, the contractions in the back do not make for laying or sitting back very comfy at all! Luckily the minute they checked me they said "Shes ready!" My water broke the minute I got on the table, she said the dr would have to cut me, I was out of it then and just agreed. And my son was born 15 min after I arrived.

Needless to say I didnt have any other complications, but the pain WOW, it was intense. I did NOT forget about it as women say, I still havent 17 yrs later! I cant even believe hes that old now! I started to have bad back pains after my son was born, almost as bad as the labor, and Id be in a ball on the floor. I guess my pelvic muscles were all weak and out of shape, I had to start an exercise routine to ward off these back pains. I used to lay crying and my husband felt helpless. They went away after I did back and lower body exercises. I then had my second child, this time with a midwife at a birth center, she used a homeopathic remedy she said softens the cervix. This time I did NOT have back labor, I woke up cause it was like I was dribbling and unsure if my water broke, or was leaking, she was an hour away so we headed down, there she did the underwater birth, my second was born an hour later, far less pain, quicker labor, no tearing or stitches.

But I I still am scared off by having another baby because of the first one and the back labor! I dont wish I did it differently or had meds, etc. I just know it HURT, and I wonder if its because my abdominal and back muscles were weak? I know some women have back labor, but I wonder why that is? dang it hurts!

Looks fresh and yummy! :) Yay! I'm happy to see you blogging again. Even if we don't have time to talk, it's great to see what you are up to through your writing. It makes me feel like we have just had a nice conversation, albeit a one sided one, but nice none the less. :)

She's changing my life by teaching me what is clutter - and how to get rid of it, 15 minutes at a time. When I stumbled on your Keep or Purge post I couldn't help but share her link :)
Hope its interesting to you x
